The Enterprise Center Leaders About Business (TEC-LAB) gives youth a forum to explore entrepreneurship, develop leadership skills, and serve their communities as they create viable career options for the future.
Summer TEC-LAB is a business internship program targeting rising 10th– 12th grade students within Philadelphia. The program introduces students to entrepreneurship and intelligent financial decision making, while focusing on eating healthy food and adopting healthy lifestyles. Through our partnership with The Food Trust, we will expose students to the Get HYPE Movement (Healthy You. Positive Energy.). This youth wellness initiative empowers students to become leaders for healthy change in their schools and communities. Youth will connect with successful local business owners and community leaders who mentor the students and foster their development as the next generation of advocates, entrepreneurs and leaders. Youth will learn to prepare healthy meals, and gain an understanding of Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) which emphasizes the importance of eating locally grown, organic and pesticide free food products. They will also grow in their knowledge of entrepreneurship as they run a local food stand and encourage neighborhood community members to eat and purchase produce. Interns will participate in and learn to lead Youth Summits and will be encouraged to return to their schools in the fall to pilot Get HYPE youth councils that create healthy initiative action plans and expose their peers to healthy eating and fitness. Registration for this program is closed. For more information on Get HYPE Philly, go to www.gethypephilly.org.
